The Origins of EA1099SWL

My name is Mark and I am 23 years old. I started in SWL around 2022 and it has been an incredible adventure ever since. How did it all begin?

I remember my interest in radio began when I discovered that there were satellites for radio amateurs. I was especially fascinated that the ISS had a repeater for this purpose. That amazed me then I bought a walkie, the Baofeng UV 15 PRO, and when I started listening, I knew that this world of radio signals was something I loved.

Initially, I started with VHF/UHF, but I quickly realized that the 2m band was just the beginning. Then I discovered other bands like 10 meters and 20 meters and more. I love listening to call signs that seem to be just around the corner, but in reality, come from incredible distances. This world feels small and vast at the same time, and that's what I like the most. In addition, in the world of amateur radio, there are no borders or geopolitics, just a realm where communication and values like respect and friendship are spread. That's my point of view. Then I bought the RTL-SDR V4, and the truth is that with today's software for anyone who listens to radio, it's a gem. And here I am as EA1099SWL.

Apart from amateur radio, I'm quite curious about everything. I legally practice cybersecurity and I'm currently studying systems. Additionally, besides amateur radio satellites, I'm quite interested in other satellites, their communication protocols, and much more. I'm also very interested in cybersecurity in space. My goal is to get my amateur radio license, but for now, I'm busy with other things, hahahha. Nonetheless, I really enjoy listening. 73! And I hope to hear you on the air!
